Can I have a custom designed piece?
Yes. The pieces on my site are priced and made to order in average sizes 16" to 18". To custom make the piece much longer will raise the price. It is also possible to modify an existing design by changing stones. Please inquire if you want a piece customized and you will be quoted a price. CUSTOM DESIGNED pieces are generally not refundable, but if necessary, they can be exchanged for other products (you pay shipping). ADDITIONAL NOTE: Several pieces are offered in varying lengths or colors through website options, these are NOT considered custom designed pieces.
Does my Delaney Design piece require special care?
No, you should care for your Delaney Design piece as you would for any jewelry piece. (1) Remove your jewelry when showering, bathing, or using cleaning products. (2) Freshwater pearls should not be worn against watches or other metal jewelry as this will eventually damage their nacre (surface). (3) Sterling silver pieces and accents will require occasional polishing and are best stored in airtight plastic bags to retard tarnishing. (4) We like the SUNSHINE polishing cloths for light tarnish removal, and JEWEL BRITE TARNISH REMOVER for quick and easy removal of heavier tarnish on silver without damaging the stones or pearls. These items can be purchase on the website upon special request.
What if my piece breaks?
Delaney Design guarantees it's jewelry for life! If for any reason your piece breaks you may ship it back and it will be repaired free of charge. If the piece breaks and you are missing pieces, you will be charged to replace any pieces. You will also be charged for shipping.

What does 'sterling silver' mean?
The term 'sterling silver' means the piece is 92.5% pure silver, with 7.5% mixed alloy for strength. This is the accepted standard for quality silver jewelry throughout the world. Sterling silver is typically stamped '925' to verify its silver content. Unless otherwise stated all of the pendants, beads, chain, earwires, posts and findings are sterling silver.
What does 'gold filled' mean?
Gold filled items are very durable. "Gold filled" components are made by heat and pressure-bonding a thin layer of gold to a brass core or base. The gold layer will not wear off, as it may in gold "plated" products. It is a LIFETIME product and considerably more affordable, as it has less gold content than solid gold components.
What is a 'Cultured Pearl aka. Freshwater Pearl'?
Cultured pearls are real pearls made by oysters. They usually can be distinguished from natural ones only by tests made in laboratories. The cultured pearl has a larger central body around which the lustrous layers of nacre form. The cultured pearl also has fewer and thicker layers of nacre. Thicker layers of nacre increase the value of the pearl. Cultured pearls were first produced by inserting in an oyster a bead made of mother-of-pearl, the nacre secreted by certain inedible clams and oysters.A small amount of mantle tissue from another oyster also was inserted. The process was developed by Kokichi Mikimoto of Japan in the early 1900's. So successful was this process that the cultured-pearl business became much larger than the trade in natural pearls. Today, most cultured pearls are produced in Japan. To produce cultured pearls, young oysters are planted in carefully selected oyster beds. When the oysters are 3 years old, they are taken from the beds to special production plants. There, trained people open the oysters' shells and insert tiny pellets made of nacre or made from mussel shells. The workers then place the oysters in wire cages that will protect them from enemies. The cages are suspended from rafts and lowered into calm, protected waters near the shore. Twice a year attendants raise the cages and remove seaweed and barnacles from the oysters. Progress of the oyster and the care given it are recorded on small metal tags attached to the cage. From one to three years after the pellets and tissue are inserted, the oyster is removed from the cage and its shell is opened. There is a valuable pearl in about 1 out of every 20 oysters opened. The pearl is washed, graded, and polished before it is sent to the market. Todays pearls can also be dyed almost any color and available in an array of sizes and shapes.
